FAQs

How many sessions will I need?

Progress depends not only on our time together but also on your motivation to reflect and practice skills in daily life. Some clients prefer weekly sessions, while others come bi-monthly or take breaks to test their learning, knowing they can return anytime. I also like to review our work together so we can track your progress and celebrate how far you’ve come.

What is family therapy?

Family therapy supports the whole family, not just one person. It helps with life transitions, stress, or conflict by focusing on communication, relationships, and family dynamics. Parents and caregivers play a central role in this process.

Will I be involved in my child/youth's therapy?

Yes. Helping your child make lasting progress requires active involvement from parents and caregivers. Children can’t create change on their own—they need guidance and support at home. Depending on your child’s age and the concerns we’re addressing, I may work (only) with you as parents to strengthen skills and strategies that support your child’s growth and help manage their challenges.

I’m new in Canada and my child/teenager has a mental health diagnosis – where can I go for help?

Adjusting to a new country can be challenging, especially with a mental health diagnosis. Support is available through schools, family doctors, community mental health programs, and specialized clinics. I also help families connect with the right resources while providing guidance and counseling along the way.

Do my own experiences growing up impact my parenting?

Our early experiences shape how we understand relationships, manage emotions, and respond to stress—all of which influence our parenting. Attachment patterns from childhood can show up in how we connect with, guide, and set boundaries for our children. By exploring your own history, you can gain insight into your parenting style, break unhelpful patterns, and strengthen the relationship with your child.

My child just diagnosed with a mental health condition, how can you support our family?

Dealing with your child’s diagnosis can feel overwhelming, but having guidance and support from the start can make the adjustment much smoother. I have extensive experience and knowledge in working with children and youth, and my goal is to help families navigate the process so you don’t have to face it alone.
